Research Summary: My research uses satellite imagery to improve surface water monitoring across the Great Plains. This region is home to millions of shallow, temporary wetlands, which support biodiversity and carbon storage. I am developing an openly available tool to provide timely information on when and where these wetlands hold water. Concerned by wetland loss from intensive agriculture, conservationists may use this information to guide wetland protection and restoration efforts. I collaborate with these experts to ensure my work meets their needs. I will also use this tool to investigate the impact of climate and anthropogenic pressures on fill-dry patterns.
