Research Summary: My research focuses on how the science of adult learning can enhance the implementation and outcomes of community- based sustainability programs, such as citizen science, in ways that support equity, interdisciplinary collaboration, and positive social transformation. Addressing the complex challenges of sustainability requires individuals, organizations, and communities to learn new ways of thinking, being, and interacting with the environment and fellow humans. At its most fundamental level, learning is about creating opportunities for change. In the context of sustainability, my research addresses learning as both a response and solution to environmental issues such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and water scarcity.
