Research Summary: My research looks at the role of traditional leaders in disaster risk reduction (DRR) in Africa. Africa is amongst the most impacted by climate change-induced natural disasters. These disasters threaten the livelihoods of rural populations which are highly dependent on agriculture and natural resources. DRR is often most successful when it directly involves the communities affected. With their proximity to, and deep understanding of their communities, traditional leaders can play a critical role in disaster response and recovery, which can ultimately lead to more resilient and sustainable communities.
