Research Summary: I study how wildfire smoke affects the health and productivity of plants, especially food crops like corn. In my research, I create controlled smoke environments and measure how tiny airborne particles (PM2.5) move into leaves and alter photosynthesis. I use air-quality sensors and a portable photosynthesis system to track changes in plant function before and after smoke exposure. By combining environmental monitoring with plant physiology, my work helps us understand how increasing wildfire activity may influence agriculture, air quality, and ecosystem resilience. Ultimately, I aim to provide science that supports growers, communities, and policymakers preparing for smoke-impacted futures.
