Managing the Planet | Who gets to belong? Immigration, Environment, and Community

WHO GETS TO BELONG? Immigration, Environment, and Community
What do immigration, environmental change, and community have in common? More than you might think. The places where we live and work are shaped by questions of belonging, opportunity, environmental change, labor, and who has a voice in decisions that affect our communities.
Join the School of Sustainable Futures for a conversation that brings together perspectives from across CSU and the broader Colorado community to explore the connections between immigration and environmental justice. Panelists will consider how social, political, economic, and environmental systems shape people’s experiences and opportunities—and what it takes to build communities that are more equitable, resilient, and inclusive.
This Managing the Planet conversation will explore the ways people, places, and systems are interconnected, and what those connections can teach us about creating a more just future.
Panelists:
Lynn Hempel, Associate Professor, Department of Sociology
Natalie Montecino, Executive Director, Climate Democracy Initiative
Josh Sbicca, Associate Professor, Department of Sociology
Marcela Velasco, Professor, Department of Political Science
Moderator: Gene Kelly, Sustainable Futures Faculty Research Liaison, Director of the Agricultural Experiment Station and Associate Dean of Extension
