Congratulations Class of 2021!

To the graduating class of 2021,

We want to say, “Congratulations on your graduation!” The world needs Sustainability more than ever. Your completion of a Sustainability Minor from the School of Global Environmental Sustainability is an important accomplishment for yourself and for society. As you move forward into the next phase of your life, the skills and knowledge that you’ve mastered during your time at Colorado State University will help you help the world.

Normally, we would be telling you and your fellow graduates this during our convocation ceremony. This year will be remembered for all of the unique challenges and all of the changes, including the cancellation of our in-person ceremony at the School.

This year’s graduating class is exceptional. We are conferring 64 minors on our students from our four programs this year. Our minor graduates are earning degrees from all eight colleges at CSU. Who are these SoGES graduates? Seven of our graduates have earned two minors each with one of those graduates earning two minors in sustainability. One of this year’s graduating class has earned four minors including two sustainability minors. We have students who are graduating Magna Cum Laude and Cum Laude at CSU. In this year’s graduating class of Sustainability Minors we have students who have interned with the EPA, USAID, National Park Service, U.S. Forest Service, Sierra Club, The Institute for the Built Environment, Women in Science Network, and many other companies, NGOs and government agencies. Students studied abroad in Europe, Central America and South America during their time at CSU. We have students who have started their own businesses (with sustainability as a focus), served in the military, and one student has released three albums and ten singles.

Students who sign up for the GES minor often tell us that they are doing so to learn more about how to make a difference. We created SoGES to make a difference – in students’ lives, in accomplishing new and unique research, and to better inform our community. Your plans may have changed, and things might seem uncertain, but keep the drive that took you through your years at CSU and carry it forward to make a difference in the world. We are proud of you and what you have accomplished and hope for your continued success. Keep in touch, we love to hear from you.

We hope you stay in touch! Sign up here for the SoGES mailing list.
