Research Summary: The majority of the Earth’s human population now lives in cities. We are just beginning to scratch the surface in understanding how the urban and suburban built environment interacts with the natural environment and all the benefits it provides for humans for free. Human health and prosperity depends on environmental health and integrity. My research focuses on understanding this interaction between the natural and built environment so that we can plan, design, and manage our cities in a way that does not degrade or destroy the the natural environment and the benefits it provides for humans and other species.
