Research Summary: My research explores how we can build better cities. As an ecologist who grew up in a city, I think we tend to overlook the ecological complexity of urban areas and, consequently, discount the role that they can play in protecting biodiversity. However, increasingly we are coming to uncover and recognize the immense value that urban ecosystems can play, both ecologically and socially. As a scientist, I study this intersection, primarily through the lens of bird migration, to inform the development of cities where people and wildlife can thrive.
