Research Summary: The impacts from disasters are increasing and these impacts are spread unevenly throughout our society. I study both individual and community responses to disaster. I work to understand the  different risks people face in disaster, and how warnings and preparedness plans can help the most people. What affects the ability of certain people to prepare for and recovery from disaster? What role do organizations (churches, nonprofits, governments) play in helping prepare for and then recovery following a disaster, and how can these organizations improve the ability of a community to bounce back from a disaster?
