Research Summary: Broadly, I am interested in a signal-to-noise problem. The signal is climate change. The noise is weather and/or natural variability. My research intends to disentangle the two components to improve our understanding of climate variability and extremes events in a warming world. Specifically, I have concentrated on linkages between Arctic climate change and mid-latitude weather. Using satellite data, historical observations, statistical models, and global climate model simulations, I study how changes in Arctic sea ice and the large-scale atmospheric circulation are connected.
