Research Summary: I study how everyday environmental and social conditions affect the health of mothers and children in low- and middle-income countries. Many families cook with smoky fuels that harm health, and many pregnant women also face food insecurity and poor nutrition. My research asks a simple but important question: does cleaner air help all mothers equally? Using data from a large international study, I examine how clean cooking, nutrition, and environmental toxins together shape birth outcomes, child development, and long-term maternal health. My work shows that sustainable solutions must address both environmental pollution and social conditions to truly protect families.
