Research Summary: I study the interactions between water, sediment, and vegetation along rivers in the Southwestern United States. Recent declines in snowpack coupled with increasing municipal and agricultural water demands have affected the amount of water that flows through river systems, particularly in the Colorado River Basin. Decreases in the magnitude, duration, and frequency of high flow events can affect many aspects of river systems including encroaching vegetation, sediment dynamics, and fish habitat. My research investigates changes in these complex interactions due to changes in water availability and how these changes can alter the amount of habitat for native and endangered fishes.
