The IPBES invasive species report: insights for mountain environments
Guest Lecture from Dr. Aníbal Pauchard
Pauchard will discuss the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) report on invasive species and what this means for mountain environments. His talk will focus on ecology of biological invasions and their impact on biodiversity and ecosystem functions.
Dr. Pauchard Bio:
I am Professor at the Faculty of Forest Sciences in the University of Concepción, Chile and currently, Director of the Institute of Ecology and Biodiversity (IEB). I was also one of the founders of the Laboratory of Biological Invasions (LIB).
My research is focused mainly on the ecology of biological invasions and their impacts on biodiversity and ecosystem functions. My collaborators and I have been looking at larger intercontinental scales. I am also interested in the conservation of natural areas and how biodiversity should be conserved across the whole anthropogenic gradient from protected areas to urban environments. In recent years, I have been interested on environmental policy and how conservation can be move to real action.
I have published over 150 indexed publications, more than 10 book chapter and three books. I am associated editor in the journals Biological Invasions, Conservation Letters, Perspectives in Plant Ecology, Evolution and Systematics among others. I have received several awards including the 2018 Cooper Award by the Ecological Society of America (ESA). In the last 3 years, I have served as a Lead Author for the IPBES Regional Assessment of the Americas and as co-chair of the IPBES invasive species assessment.
