Transcending boundaries: Sustainability issues and perspectives in global cultures

Sustainability is a critical global issue that transcends cultural boundaries and demands urgent attention. To address this, we propose revising two upper-division AUCC 4A courses –Global Cultures and Global Film Studies—to deepen their focus on sustainability. These courses, already emphasizing global interdependence, will play a key role in our new major merging Languages, Literatures, and Cultures with International Studies. LSPA 434, taught in Spanish, will integrate sustainability into all 14 modules, while LGEN 465E, contributing to the Film Studies Interdisciplinary minor, will become a Sustainability- Inclusive Course. Together, these revisions will enrich students’ perspectives and prepare them as engaged community members.
