Learning Forest Contributions in Mitigating Climate Change

Forests as a natural climate solution is a highly discussed topic in modern forestry and the overall natural resource sector. Thus, it is important to educate future generations about the basics of forest carbon and different types of carbon offset markets. This project will add a new topic about forest carbon to the undergraduate forest economics course F322. The topic will comprise lectures on the fundamentals of forest carbon, and include training on the estimation and valuation of carbon stored in the live trees of CSU’s Sherwood Forest. Sherwood Forest consists of tree species native to Colorado, and is a valuable resource for students and researchers. Upon completion of this course, students will have a better understanding of the contributions of forests in mitigating climate change effects.
