Introduction to Carbon Finance

In this undergraduate course, students are introduced to concepts including carbon markets and offsets, ecosystem services, natural capital investment and more. Rooted in history and theory of development studies, political ecology, and environmental markets, this interdisciplinary course covers topics like the net-zero movement, climate tech, and the role of non-state actors in shaping climate policy. Course content will include several recorded lectures and co-created content from partners at the US Department of Energy, The Nature Conservancy, leading climate
tech companies, and more.

An abbreviated version of this course is offered as a 6-week graduate level short course this January as ESS-696. Funding from the curriculum innovation grant will provide resources to build the course out for undergraduates, with foundational interactive content, accessible readings, and career guidance.
