Despite the fundamental link that climate change is driven by changes in the chemical composition of the atmosphere, chemistry students do not have the opportunity to take a class centered around chemistry-climate interactions. Further, undergraduate STEM students are rarely taught to write about climate change. CHEM 301 (Advanced Scientific Writing – Chemistry), an AUCC GTCO3 Advanced Writing course, will be adapted to center around writing proposals to conduct small research projects on CO2 emissions, conducting the work, and then writing reports about the work.
