Huge Turnout at Sustainability Center’s Annual Potting Event

Written by Samantha Nordstrom

The Student Sustainability Center hosted its first big event of the season, the annual Potting Event, at the Oval from 4-6p.m. on Sept. 7 to kick off the fall semester. Over 100 students stopped by to pot succulents and learn more about the SSC and the School of Global Environmental Sustainability.

“I’m really excited about my plant,” CSU freshman Anna Teckenbrock said.

Current SSC Director Reaghan Fields, and Officers Matt Greves, Trevor Akiyama, and Bella Conrad shared information about the SSC and SoGes. SSC Officers Sidney Stadelmann, Raegan Synk and Sophia Richter also presented their respective projects, the Community for Climate Anxiety and the Patchwork Project.

Teckenbrock, who came to the Potting event after her foundations of sustainability professor told her about it, became interested in the Patchwork Project and the Community for Climate Anxiety.

“I love thrifting and everything with sustainable fashion,” Teckenbrock said. “I’m also really excited about the trash art because I love making jewelry and any sort of upcycled art.”

CSU freshman Ke-ala Stauber enjoys projects involving recycling, but most importantly, likes to feel active in sustainability.

“You feel like you can’t do anything about [climate change],” Stauber said. “I like feeling like I’m actually helping and doing something.”
