SUMMARY:Managing the Planet | Managing the next outbreak: Mountain Pine Beetles and the Future of Colorado's Forest Communities
DESCRIPTION:Managing the next outbreak: Mountain Pine Beetles and the Future of Colorado’s Forest Communities \nThe mountain pine beetle has reshaped millions of acres of Colorado’s forests\, but what does that mean for the communities who live\, work\, and recreate here? \nThis panel brings together experts in tree health and beetle-associated fungi\, forest ecology and management\, statewide forest protection strategy\, and forest insect science to discuss how Colorado can better anticipate and manage future outbreaks. The conversation will explore what drives beetle populations\, how outbreaks intersect with wildfire risk and water resources\, and what coordinated science\, management\, and policy efforts are underway to strengthen forest resilience. \nPanelists: \nMatt McCombs\, State Forester and Director\, Colorado State Forest Service\nJane Stewart\, Associate Professor\, Department of Agricultural Biology\nTony Vorster\, Research Scientist\, Natural Resource Ecology Laboratory\nDan West\, State’s Forest Entomologist\, Colorado State Forest Service \nModerator: Gene Kelly\, SoGES Faculty Research Liaison\, Director of the Agricultural Experiment Station and Associate Dean of Extension

SUMMARY:SoGES Community Coffee Hour
DESCRIPTION:We’re hosting SoGES Community Coffee Hours/Lunches to create space for conversation and networking among members of our SoGES community (anyone new or SoGES-curious is welcome too). We’ll start with some lightly facilitated discussion on a timely topic related to sustainability to spark discussion\, followed by time to socialize\, catch up\, and meet others. Drop in or out any time during the hour. \nFor March\, we want to dive into a topic that is on everyone’s mind: the vocabulary and rhetoric of sustainability research right now. Faculty are increasingly navigating questions of whether (and how) to use terms like climate change or justice in grants\, proposals\, and papers. We will have a candid discussion on the strategic tradeoffs of these terms—exploring what we gain or lose with different audiences when we use specific keywords. Joined by Sam Ernst\, Dinaida Egan\, and Hilary Galey. \n  \n\n\n \n \n SoGES Community Coffee RSVP\n RSVP form for SoGES community coffee \n \n Name*\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Email*\n \n Attending?*\n \n \n Yes\n \n \n \n No
