SUMMARY:Sustainable Futures Community Coffee Hour
DESCRIPTION:We’re hosting School of Sustainable Futures Community Coffee Hours to create space for conversation and networking among members of our SSF community (anyone new or Sustainable Futures-curious is welcome too). We’ll start with a lightly facilitated discussion on a timely sustainability topic to spark discussion\, followed by time to socialize\, catch up\, and meet others. Drop in or out any time during the hour. \nFor September: Our discussion topic will be inclusive sustainable development in highland regions. We’ll be joined by Fernando Ruis Peyré\, Ilinca Valentina Stoica\, and Gillian Bowser\, whose interdisciplinary work brings together social science\, geography\, ecology\, and environmental conservation. Drawing on perspectives from three different countries and cultural contexts\, the conversation will explore issues that many Coloradans will recognize\, including recreation\, tourism\, livestock\, farming\, and other highland livelihoods. \n\n\n \n \n Sustainable Futures Community Coffee RSVP\n RSVP form for School of Sustainable Futures community coffee \n \n Name*\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Email*\n \n Attending?*\n \n \n Yes\n \n \n \n No

SUMMARY:Managing the Planet | Who gets to belong? Immigration\, Environment\, and Community
DESCRIPTION:WHO GETS TO BELONG? Immigration\, Environment\, and Community \nWhat do immigration\, environmental change\, and community have in common? More than you might think. The places where we live and work are shaped by questions of belonging\, opportunity\, environmental change\, labor\, and who has a voice in decisions that affect our communities. \nJoin the School of Sustainable Futures for a conversation that brings together perspectives from across CSU and the broader Colorado community to explore the connections between immigration and environmental justice. Panelists will consider how social\, political\, economic\, and environmental systems shape people’s experiences and opportunities—and what it takes to build communities that are more equitable\, resilient\, and inclusive. \nThis Managing the Planet conversation will explore the ways people\, places\, and systems are interconnected\, and what those connections can teach us about creating a more just future. \nPanelists: \nLynn Hempel\, Associate Professor\, Department of Sociology\nNatalie Montecino\, Executive Director\, Climate Democracy Initiative\nJosh Sbicca\, Associate Professor\, Department of Sociology\nMarcela Velasco\, Professor\, Department of Political Science \nModerator: Gene Kelly\, Sustainable Futures Faculty Research Liaison\, Director of the Agricultural Experiment Station and Associate Dean of Extension
