This project will create dynamic learning experience(s) that will enhance the coverage of sustainability and climate change within the Civil and Environmental Engineering curriculum. Specifically, new maker activities and active learning modules for two undergraduate courses (CIVE 421: Global Water Challenges and CIVE 480A6: Climate Change Risks and Impacts in Civil and Environmental Engineering), as well as an activity that can be used to introduce students to concepts of climate change within first year engineering courses (ENGR 111 and ENGR 114, both are currently being developed) will be created. Through newly developed active learning strategies and hands-on maker activities, the courses will deepen students’ understanding of the impacts of climate change on global water issues and across sectors including infrastructure, human health, energy and the urban environment. These enhancements will foster critical thinking and practical problem-solving skills, and will prepare students to address climate challenges in their future careers through resilient design and sustainable approaches that focus on environment and society.
