Dale Lockwood is the Academic Coordinator for SoGES and holds a joint appointment as Associate Professor in SoGES and Biology. He provides advising to the undergraduates minoring in Global Environmental Sustainability, works with the Curriculum Committee to design and develop new courses and curricula in sustainability and meets with students interested in learning more about SoGES and the courses offered. A population ecologist, his work involves the analysis of complex population dynamics of rangeland grasshoppers, modeling larval dispersal in marine organisms to better implement marine reserves and work on the ecological genetics of plant species related to storage in seed banks. His research has been honored with one paper being named the Outstanding Paper in Genetic Resources by the Crop Society of America and another named one of the most important papers in the Journal of Range Management in the last 50 years. He works in the area of science/policy interface having chaired the Environmental Advisory Board of Larimer County and as vice president of Front Range on Track, a non-profit working to encourage passenger rail development as a more sustainable transportation solution for the Front Range of Colorado. Dr. Lockwood teaches courses for the School and in the Biology Department and has been nominated for Honors Professor Award, CSU Teacher of the Year and Greek Life Outstanding Faculty. His outreach includes coaching Science Olympiad and Science Bowl teams middle and high schools. Dr. Lockwood has a PhD in Population Biology from the University of California, Davis, a Master of Science in Applied Mathematics from the University of Arizona and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Mathematics from New Mexico State University.
