March 2016 - The SSC endorsed the Facilities Management windrow composting proposal which was presented to the University Faculty Fee Advisory Board. A new composting facility on the CSU Foothills campus would greatly expand the university's composting capacity and reduce the amount of waste added to landfills in our community.

June 2016 - The SSC signed a letter of support sponsored by the Wilderness Society in order to accomplish federal coal reform. The U.S. Department of Interior announced review of the federal coal program in January 2016, and there will be a public session on June 23, 2016 in Grand Junction to address this issue. Currently, coal contributes to 20% of U.S. Climate Emissions which severely impacts Earth's ecosystems and urban areas, especially here in Colorado. This reform is very important for a sustainable future, and the SSC is proud to support the proposed reform from the Wilderness Society.
