The U.S. has quietly withdrawn 17 sites from the UNESCO World Network of Biosphere Reserves program.

CSU, Future Earth team land sustainability science grant

A team led by Josh Tewksbury, director of the Colorado Global Hub of Future Earth, and W. Chris Funk, director of the Global Biodiversity Center at Colorado State University’s School of Global Environmental Sustainability, recently received a $2 million grant from the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation to fund sustainability science projects.

Thomas Lovejoy receives highest academic honor given by France

Dr. Tom Lovejoy received the highest academic medal given by France, at the French Embassy. Distinguished career in environmental science and global public policy to protect the Earth.  The award was established by Napoleon at the same time as the Legion d’Honneur. Tom Lovejoy is a SoGES External Advisory Board member and was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from Colorado State University (1989).

US National Academy Letter on Climate Change

On September 20, 2016, 375 members of the National Academy of Sciences, including 30 Nobel laureates, published an open letter to draw attention to the serious risks of climate change. The letter warns that the consequences of opting out of the Paris agreement would be severe and long-lasting for our planet’s climate and for the international credibility of the United States.
