Reaching for Regeneration: Discovering the Power of Place

Date:
Tuesday, April 11, 2017 - 6:15pm to 8:15pm
Location:

Community Creative Center at Carengie Building, 200 Mathews Street, Fort Collins, CO, 80524

Communities regenerate not from the outside in, but the inside out. Wherever we work, rather than import a set of solutions, we begin with a process of discovery. Story of Place is the approach we use to understand a community. Story of Place is a systemic and participatory process that identifies and honors the unique nature of a place and the people who live there - and a powerful experience that renews a community's spirit. It is a "regenerative approach to sustainable community development that grows a community's capacity to discover, share, and live out a story that's uniquely its own."

Ben Haggard, a founding principal of Regenesis Group, will talk about regenerative development as a practice that orients to the unique potential of a place as a starting point. Haggard has helped to pioneer the Story of Place process, which leverages research into a place's historic and present-day patterns of ecology and culture to inform planning and development. Story of Place helps a community develop an understanding of how it is distinctive, what uniquely "works" and "doesn't work" there, and what larger value it can contribute to the world.

Registration is FREE, but required. Light refreshments will be provided. Register here.
