SoGES Antarctic Lecture Series - Picturing the Past in the McMurdo Dry Valleys

Date:
Tuesday, April 17, 2018 - 7:00pm to 8:00pm
Location:

Old Town Library, 201 Peterson St., Fort Collins, CO

Poppie Gullet, CSU Graduate Student; Architectural Historian, Pinyon Environmental Inc.

The history of Antarctica is often told as one of explorers such as Robert Falcon Scott or Ernest Shackleton, but the history of people in the McMurdo Dry Valleys is much more complicated than these heroic tales. By using interviews, notes, maps, and photographs collected from Antarctic scientists, we can piece together a more complete picture of the past. Come learn about the history of Antarctic science, environmental management, and the legacy of the United States Antarctic Program.
