Branch Chief Science and Tech, Natural Sounds and Night Skies Division, National Park Service
I am interested in creating new tools for observing wildlife and using these to document the effects of human activities on animal behavior and ecological function. In bioacoustics, I developed digital signal processing algorithms and software to detect, characterize, classify, and spatially localize animal sounds. I also developed improved hardware for collecting acoustical data in terrestrial and marine habitats. I have also led projects that devised innovative approaches to wildlife radio telemetry. At present my primary duty involves assessing the effects of noise and light pollution on wildlife and park visitors.
