GEOL492/692: Short-circuiting the Geologic Carbon Cycle

Semester, Days, Time:
1 credit, Fall 2017, Fridays, 1:00-1:50pm
Course Description:

In this seminar, we will examine the anthropogenic CO2 problem through the lens of the natural carbon cycle, with an emphasis on the long-time-scale processes that govern the balance of carbon over hundreds to millions of years. Through weekly readings and discussion, we will explore how atmospheric CO2 has varied in the geologic past, what the eventual fate of fossil fuel CO2 will be, and the feasibility of enhancing the natural processes that remove CO2 from the atmosphere.
