ANTH 692: African Sustainability - Culture, Climate, and Change

Course Description: 

The three pillars of sustainability: society, economy, and the environment are at the core of many initiatives currently going on in Africa. Over 40% of the continent is savannas. These areas show some of the fastest growing middle classes and urbanization with concurrent loss of habitat and biodiversity and an increasingly variable climate. Social transformation is occurring while conflict over natural resources increases. we will explore the notion of sustainable futures for these areas in Africa through the lens of culture, climate, and change.
